Adobe Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill tool was designed to help you quickly remove distracting elements or unwanted objects from your photos. Here is how to use the tool.

Step one: select the unwanted area

Once you’ve opened your photo in Photoshop, it’s time to select the area you want to remove. There are a couple of ways you can select something in Photoshop. In this case, we’re using the Lasso Tool.

  1. Select the Lasso Tool from the toolbar on the left.

    Click on the Lasso Tool.
  2. Press and hold the left mouse button to draw with the Lasso Tool. When you let go of the left mouse button, the Lasso Tool will automatically close the selection.

    Hold down the left mouse button and draw around the area you want to erase. Then, let go of the left mouse button to close the selection.

Step two: use Content-Aware Fill

Once you are happy with your selection, you can move on to the Content-Aware Fill tool.

  1. Go to Edit > Fill.

    Open the Content Aware Fill tool
    Go to Edit > Fill.
  2. Make sure to have the Content-Aware selected under “Contents”.

    Choose the Content-Aware option from the drop menu.
  3. Click OK. That will automatically remove the selected area from your photo.
