In Adobe Photoshop, you can change the colors of specific objects in your photos. Here is a simple guide on how to do that.

Selecting the object

There are a couple of ways you can select an object in Photoshop. You might already have your preferred method, but here are two easy ways.

Quick Selection Tool

If you have a high-definition picture, this selection method will work great.

  1. Click on the Quick Selection Tool.

  2. Then click on any object you wish to select, and the Quick Selection Tool will select it automatically.

  3. However, as you can see from the picture above, the selection is not perfect. You can select more or deselect unwanted areas with the Quick Selection Tool options in the top toolbar.

Polygonal Lasso Tool

If your picture is not that high-definition, the Polygonal Lasso Tool is a more manual way to select your object.

  1. Click on the Polygonal Lasso Tool.

  2. Click around the border of the object you wish to select. You can close the selection by double-clicking in place or clicking on the beginning of the selection.

    With the Polygonal Lasso Tool selected, click along the edges of the item you want to select.

Changing the color

There are a couple of ways you can recolor specific objects in Photoshop. Here are the two main ways:

Hue/Saturation Tool

  1. With your object selected, go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

    Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.
  2. Hue is the option that allows you to change the color of the selected object. Just drag the white arrow, and you will see immediate change if the Preview is enabled. You can also adjust the Saturation and Lightness of the selected object.

  3. Once you are happy with the results, click on OK.

Color Replacement Tool

This method does not require selecting the object you wish to recolor previously, but you can do so for a more precise recolor.

  1. With your image opened in Photoshop, go to Image > Adjustments > Replace Color.

    Go to Image > Adjustments > Replace Color.
  2. Make sure to uncheck Localized Color Clusters for better results.

    Turn off Localized Color Clusters.
  3. Fuzziness allows you to adjust the size of the area affected by the recolor. Hue allows you to change the color. You can also adjust the Saturation and Lightness of the photo. You will see immediate results if the Preview option is checked.

  4. Once you are happy with the results, click on OK.
