How to Make a Grid in Photoshop

Creating a custom grid in Adobe Photoshop can be useful when working on certain projects. It can be achieved by first creating a custom pattern, then using it as a template for our grid.

Creating a new grid pattern

First, you need to create the grid pattern.

Start by creating a New Canvas that’s 720×720 Pixels. Set the “Background Contents” to Transparent.
Create a New Canvas.
Click on the Line Tool.
Click on the Line Tool.
In the toolbar on top, adjust the Fill to No Fill.
Set the Fill option to No Fill.
Press Ctrl + R (Cmd + R on Mac) on your keyboard to bring out the Rulers.
While holding Shift, click and draw a line in the middle of the screen.
While holding Shift, click and draw a line straight in the middle.
Right-click the layer and select Duplicate Layer. You can also press Ctrl + J on your keyboard (Cmd + J on Mac).
Right-click on the Layer, and select Duplicate Layer.
With the new layer selected, go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 ° Clockwise.
Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 ° Clockwise.
Right-click one of the layers, and click Merge Visible.
Right-click on a layer and select Merge Visible.
Go to Edit > Define Pattern.
Go to Edit > Define Pattern.
Give the pattern a name, and click OK.
Name the pattern, and click OK.

Using the pattern as a grid

Once the pattern is created, you can use it whenever you want as a grid. To access the grid pattern you’ve made, you first need to have the Pattern tab opened.

Go to Window > Patterns.
Go to Window > Patterns.
On the right, find the pattern you’ve created and select it.
Select your pattern on the right.
You can adjust the grid size by double-clicking it in the Layers tab.
Double-click the pattern in the “Layers” tab to adjust its scale.
In “Pattern Fill” you can adjust the Scale % of your Pattern. Click OK when you’re done.
Once you adjust the scale, click OK.

How to Use the Magic Wand Tool in Photoshop

Photoshop has selection tools that can help you isolate an object in your photos. The simplest one of them is the Magic Wand Tool.

Step 1: Select using the Magic Want Tool

Right click and hold the selection tool in the left panel. This will open a drop menu.
Right click and hold the selection tool.
From there, click on the Magic Wand Tool icon.
Select the Magic Wand Tool.
Make sure that New selection is selected in the top toolbar.
Click on New selection.
Click anywhere on the photo where you wish to select an area.
Click on the area you want to make a selection.

Step 2: Add to the selection

If there is part of the image that was not selected, you can add it to your selection.

Click on Add to selection.
Click on Add to selection.
Click on the additional areas you want to add to the selection.

Step 3: Subtract from the selection

If you want to remove a selection you made, here is how to do it:

Click on Subtract from selection.

This guide shows you the easiest method to mirror a photo in Photoshop. Follow these steps:

Go to Select > All, or press Ctrl + A (Cmd + A on Mac). This will select the photo.

To mirror the image horizontally, go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.

Adobe Photoshop has a couple of ways to deselect either everything or a specific object:

Deselect everything

You can deselect everything at once with one simple step.

Go to Select > Deselect.

Deselect specific sections of objects

If you wish only to deselect a specific area of your selection, you can use the Magic Wand Tool.

Click on the Magic Wand Tool in the left toolbar.
Click on the Magic Wand Tool.
On top, click on Subtract from selection.

Then click on the area of the photo you wish to deselect.
Click on the area you wish to deselect.

How to Use the Photoshop Warp Tool

Adobe Photoshop’s Warp tool allows you to reshape an image. You can give your pictures a funky look with this tool. Follow these steps:

Option #1: Create your own warp

Press Ctrl + A (Cmd + A on Mac) to select the picture. Or go to Select > All.
Go to Select > Al.
Go to Edit > Transform > Warp.
Go to Edit > Transform > Warp.
In the top toolbar, you have additional options to set up the Warp tool.

The Grid has a couple of preset options you can use.
Click on the dropdown menu.
To use the Warp tool, click and drag the tiny circles on the grid. This will change the photo’s appearance.
Click and drag the circles to edit the photo.
Once you are satisfied with the appearance of the photo, click on the checkmark icon.
Click on the checkmark to save changes.

Option #1: Use a Warp preset

Warp has a couple of preset options that allow you to edit the photo with just a click.

In the toolbar on top, click on the drop menu beside Warp.
Click on the drop menu next to warp.
From the menu select any of the shapes. They will be applied to the photo.
Click on any of the preset shapes.

Create your own grid

If you are not happy with preset Grid options, you can add a grid manually. This is done using the Split option in the top toolbar:

Warp Clockwise

Split the Warp Clockwise.

Warp Vertically

Split the Warp Vertically.

Warp Horizontally

Split the Warp Horizontally.

How to Flip an Image in Photoshop

This guide shows you how to flip an image horizontally and vertically in Photoshop.

Option #1: Flip an entire image

Go to Image > Image Rotation > Flip Canvas Horizontal/Vertical. This will flip the whole image horizontally/vertically.

Option #2: Flip part of an image

If you do not want to flip the whole image but just a section, follow these steps.

Select the area you want to flip. In this case we used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select.

How to White Balance in Photoshop

Changing the white balance on a photo can significantly enhance its appearance by intensifying specific colors. Adobe Photoshop has a couple of methods to adjust the white balance of your project. Here are the two most commonly used ways.

Adjust the white balance manually

With your picture opened in Photoshop, follow these steps.

In the Layers tab, click on Create new fill or adjustment layer.
Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer.
Click on Curves.
Click on Curves.
In the new window that pops up, click on the three vertical lines and select Show Clipping for Black/White Points.
Select Show Clipping for Black/White Points.
From the RGB drop-down menu, choose Red.
Choose Red.
Move the left arrow to the right until the picture shows dark spots.
Move the left arrow to the right.
Move the right arrow to the left until the picture shows red spots.
Move the right arrow to the left.
From the RGB drop menu, choose Green.
Choose the Green color.
Again, move the left arrow toward the right until the picture shows dark spots.

Move the right arrow to the left.
From the RGB drop-down menu, select Blue.
Select Blue.
Move the left arrow to the right until the picture shows dark spots.
Move the left arrow to the right.
Move the right arrow to the left until the picture shows blue spots.
Move the right arrow to the left.
You are done.

Adjust white balance using Auto Options

Some preset settings could work as well.

In the Layers tab, click on Create new fill or adjustment layer.
Click on the three lines in the top right, and select Auto Options.
Click on the three lines in the top right and select Auto Options.
Check out the options under “Algorithms”, as those are preset color correction options.
In this case, we will choose Enhance Per Channel Contrast. Test them and find the one that best optimizes the white balance of your image. When finished, click OK.
Pick out the preset option you prefer. Then click OK.

Your image will be white-balanced according to the preset.

Adding a sparkle effect to your photos can bring certain elements to life and adds a magical touch. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to create your own sparkle effect in Photoshop and save it as a Brush Preset. This allows you to reuse it in future projects.

First, you need to create a New Document that’s 1200×1200 Pixels. Choose White under “Background Contents”.
Create a New Canvas.
In the Layers tab, click on the New Layer icon.
Create a new layer.
With the new layer selected, select the Elliptical Marquee Tool.
Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool.
Change the “Style” to Fixed Size.
Change the “Style” to Fixed Size.
Adjust the Width to 25px and the Height to 450px.
Set the Width and Height.
Click anywhere in the document. It should automatically create the shape.
Click anywhere on the white area to create the shape.
Click on the color square at the bottom of the “toolbar” on the left. Make the color black.
Click on the color palette and select black.
Go to Edit > Fill.
Go to Edit > Fill.
Under “Contents” select Foreground Color. Then click OK.
Choose Foreground color, and click OK.
Change the Style back to Normal.
Switch the “Style” back to Normal.
Go to Select > Deselect.

Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur.
Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur.
Change the Angle to 90 ° and the Distance to 650. Then click OK.

If the Sparkle Effect is not already selected, find it from the brush list on top.
Find the brush you’ve created in the list of brushes.
You can then adjust the size of the brush.
Adjust the size of the sparkle.
Change the color of the brush to white.
Click on the color palette, and change the color to white.
Click where you wish to apply the sparkles, and you are done!
Click where you want to apply the sparkles.

How to Blur Edges in Photoshop

Blurring out the edges manually in Adobe Photoshop can be complicated, but there is an easier way to do it. With your picture open in Photoshop, follow these steps:

Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
Select the middle part of the picture – the part you do not want to blur.
Select the part of the image you do not want to blur.
Go to Select > Inverse.
Go to Select > Inverse.
Next, go to Select > Feather.
Go to Select > Feather.
Adjust the Feather Radius according to the amount of blur you want. In our case, we adjusted it to 70 pixels for a strong blur effect. Click OK.
Adjust the Feather Radius, and click OK.
Then, press Delete on your keyboard. Finally, go to Select > Deselect.
Press Delete on your keyboard and go to Select > Deselect.

The edges of your image will now be blurred.

How to Use the Displacement Map in Photoshop

Displacement Mapping in Adobe Photoshop can give your text a new, dynamic appearance. It makes it appear like a “part” of the image. Follow this guide to learn how to use this technique.

Step 1: Make a displacement map

Before adding the text you wish to blend in, you need to make a displacement map that we will use later.

Open your picture in Photoshop.
Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
Set the Radius to 1.0 Pixels, and click OK.
Set the Radius to 1.0.
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and click OK. You can also click on the Hue/Saturation icon under the “Adjustments” tab.
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and click OK.
Bring the Saturation all the way to the left by moving the small white arrow. You can also adjust the value of Saturation to -100.
Adjust the Saturation to -100.
Go to File > Save As.
Go to File > Save as.
Name your file and click Save. For example, we named it “Displacement Map”.
Name your file and click Save.
Close the file in Photoshop by pressing the small X beside its name.
Close the file by clicking on the small X beside its name.

Step 2: Add your text

Once the displacement map has been made, you can add your text. First, open the original picture in Photoshop again, then follow these steps:

Click on the Horizontal Type tool.
Click on the Horizontal Type tool.
Click anywhere on the image, and type your text.
Once your text is added, right-click on the text layer in the Layers tab.
Right-click the text layer.
Select Convert to Smart Object.
Select Convert to Smart Object.

Step 3: Use the Displace Tool

It is time to apply the displacement map to your text.

Go to Filter > Distort > Displace.
Go to Filter > Distort > Displace.
You can leave these options at their default values. Click OK.
Click OK.
Locate the previously saved displacement map file, select it and click Open.
Open the Displacement Map file you created.

Step 4: Adjust the appearance of your image

If you are unhappy with how your text looks, here are some tips for making it look more realistic.

To adjust the appearance of the Displacement Map, set the Fill to 0 and double-click on the Layer.
Set the Fill to 0, then double-click the Layer.
In the Layer Style, click Color Overlay, and choose the color by clicking the color rectangle.
Click Color Overlay, and choose the color of your text by clicking on the color rectangle.
In Blend Mode, choose Linear Burn.
Select Linear Blur within Blend Mode.
Click Bevel & Emboss. Change the “Style” to Emboss and make the direction Down.
Click Bevel & Emboss. Set the Style to Emboss. Set the direction to Down.
Set the Angle to –45 degrees to match the shadows in the picture. The correct angle can be different in your case.
Set the Angle to -45 degrees.
To soften the look, set the “Highlight Mode” to Linear Dodge and the “Shadow Mode” to Linear Burn.
Set the “Highlight Mode” to Linear Dodge, and “Shadow Mode” to Linear Burn
Then, set their Opacity to 20%.
Set their Opacity to 20%.
Finally, click OK. Our text is looking much more realistic now!
